Sisters in Law
Sisters in Law by Jonathan Shapiro, based on the book by Linda Hirshman, was a production I directed in April 2024 at CenterStage Theatre in Rochester, NY. While Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sandra Day O’Connor had much in common as the first two women on the U.S. Supreme Court, their methodologies and political leanings couldn’t have been more opposite. This new play by Emmy and Peabody award-winner Jonathan Shapiro, based on the award-winning 2015 book, brings to life a friendship of two iconic figures that transcended political party, religion, and culture. My team consisted of set design by David Daniels, lighting design by Jenn Dehollander, costume design by Cathy Johnson, and sound and projections design by Alexa Scott-Flaherty, T.D. David Daniels, P.S.M. Jess Ames. Featuring Karin Bowersock as Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Patricia Lewis as Sandra Day O’Connor.

Thy Name Is Woman
Thy Name is Woman, co-created by Jill Bradbury, Alexa Scott-Flaherty, and Andy Head, was a production I co-directed in November 2023 at RIT/NTID in Rochester, NY.
Produced collaboratively by RIT & NTID Performing Arts, Thy Name is Woman is an immersive adaptation of Hamlet. Set in a modern context, this production explores the character of Ophelia, one of Shakespeare's most underdeveloped female characters, yet one of the most well-known and debated of Shakespeare's female roles. Thy Name Is Woman uses multi-sensory experiences and non-linear performance to investigate Ophelia's past, psychology, motivations, and desires while inviting audiences to create their understandings of her life and her decisions. Thy Name is Woman offers American Sign Language and spoken English performances.

Cry it Out
Cry it Out by Molly Smith Metzler was a production I directed in May 2023 at Blackfriars Theatre in Rochester, NY. Blackfriars is a mid-sized professional theatre in downtown Rochester, and my team consisted of set design by Allen Shannon, lighting design by Ted Plant, costume design by Katherine McCarthy, props design by Carly Cressman, sound design by Alexa Scott-Flaherty, T.D. Dave Baxter, P.S.M. Carrie Grinstead. Leading the charge as the director of Cry it Out is long-time Blackfriars collaborator and RIT Theatre Lecturer Alexa Scott-Flaherty. "That time in a parent's life is an onslaught of change, sleeplessness, fear and love...and it cracks most of us wide open in ways we can't predict," says Scott-Flaherty. "There is no other play I've come across that takes this time of life and lays it out bare on the stage-for us to laugh at ourselves, recognize our friends and our partners, reflect on the state of childcare in our country, and feel gratitude for the friendships that pulled us through it whole, and better for it all."
